AFI continue their all grown up phase (with Davey Havok seriously channelling Perry Farrell’s look) for their new single ‘Beautiful Thieves’ which is all models in a big house doing terrible things like drugs and alcohol but does end up looking like a cheaper looking version of 30STM’s ‘The Kill’ promo. ‘Medicate’ was far more fun.

Feb 2: Fenech-Soler ‘Lies’ We say: “Fenech-Soler take what is becoming a very overcrowded electro genre and inject it with something that’s hard to pinpoint but, oh boy, can you feel it deep down where your soul craves less cow-bell carnival electro and far more entrancing, suave, burnished gold beats.”
January 28th: The Automatic ‘Run and Hide’ We say: “it’s a little restrained and the video seems to capture the motions of a band not yet entirely settled in a new frame of mind”
January 26th: The Golden Filters ‘Hide Me’ We say: “a mixture of warehouse beats under the winsome vocals of Penelope Trappes.”
January 25th: Wounds We say: “When we get a chance to see this band, it might be advisable to take body padding cuz if their live show is as incredibly full throttle as the sampler we got sent, we’re gonna get mushed into the floor.”
January 21st: Wild Beasts plus Goldhawks ‘Where In The World’ We say: “In case you weren’t listening to Radio 1 this morning, Wild Beasts got their new single played and it was so lovely and swooning and amazing that every white van man must have driven into the guard rails.”
January 20th: trailer for ‘Kick Ass’ We say: “So there’s nothing like watching a film, or at least the trailer, that begins with a comedy suicide. Sure, there’s nothing more amusing. After all, when was the last time you were compelled to swan dive off a skyscraper wearing a cape made of venetian blinds?”
January 18th: Is Tropical ‘When O When’ We say: “Beginning like it can barely stand on its own delicate, lo-fi acoustic legs, it suddenly grows an enormous attitude problem and stalks across the dancefloor like bass beast.”
January 14th: Hadouken ‘Turn The Lights Out’ We say: “This gargantuan party tune will have house parties vibrating up and down the land, much to the disgruntled neighbours who will call the cops and dob you in to your parentals. Fuckers.”
January 12th: Envy ‘Set Yourself on Fire’
January 11th: Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll (the Ian Dury film)
January 8th: The Black Angels ‘You On The Run’
January 7th: teenagersintokyo ‘Peter Pan’
January 6th: Lostprophets ‘Where We Belong’
We say: “Have you seen our Ian Watkins interview yet? No? Then hurry up.”
January 5th: Far ‘Pony’
We say: “A ginuwinely (see what we did there) brilliant cover of that RnB dude’s hit single.”
January 4th: Tinie Tempah ‘Pass Out’ (for a free download, go to http://www.myspace.com/tinietempah)
