Simian Mobile Disco’s new single, ‘Cruel Intentions’ (with Beth Ditto on vox) might not be as immediate as the absolutely slamming ‘Audacity of Huge’ but after the minimal (read: boring!) promo vid for it, they have returned with a short film called A Study After Cruel Intentions.

“In a world where music video’s are becoming less and less relevant, the idea of doing something that was born from the song but stands as a work in its own right really appealed to us. We are also great believers in giving directors carte blanche and when someone like Saam takes the ball and really runs with it, we love it. The result is definitely not a standard functional music video. It’s a thought provoking short film that challenges you to view the song in a different light.” – SMD

It’s a dark, unsettling piece of film, filled with surreal, Victorian-looking drug paraphernalia, refined older women who are a vile mix of insect instinct, manipulative sexuality and little girl slyness, and some truly disturbing drug induced freakouts.  Directed by Saam Farahmand, it will stick with you.

The song’s video contains cherry picked scenes, for the full short film:
