It’s no suprise that vintage stores worldwide make a killing from selling old band shirts. They were, after all, some of the most outlandish, coolest, iconic things ever to grace a teenger’s back and for some people, collecting them was all partof the fun. Not only did the bands and artists make some memorable material, the fans also got in on the game and began making their own.

‘Ripped: t-shirts from the underground’ is the book that displays over 200 of these amazing pieces. Edited by vintage boutique owner Cesar Padilla (who owns Cherry in NYC) and with contributionbs by Lydia Lunch, designer Betsey Johnson and Sonic Youth’s Thurtson Moore, this is a fascinating and visually arresting book.

‘Ripped…’ is available from 5th April and is priced £18.95, published by Rizzoli
