Radio 1 Review Show

Last night I had the major happy privilege of getting to go on Radio 1′s Review Show with Nihal to talk music and all things random. Which is what I do best. My fellow panellists were Ras Kwame and Shannon Leto, which was very cool as it made for quite a full on and very opinionated panel. Hell, you got two blokes that talk for a living and one mega rock star who is quite accustomed to having every word hung upon and …. er, me.

But since I’m at my best when up against the odds I was totally prepared to get my two bobs worth in… muscles out! And it was a great night. I love doing radio and not because I have a voice like liquid honey over gravel. *hahahaha* It’s just so much fun and you kinda forget there’s people listening to you and you end up just having a big old chit-chat.

I know this is going to be read by 30STM fans so shall I just cut out the boring shit and tell you about Shannon? Of course. You’ll all know this because you know everything, but he is one of the nicest musos I’ve ever met with a one of those dirty infectious laughs that are always good to hear. And he didn’t wear sunglasses, that was cool cos the sunglasses inside thing does tend to make me twitch and have to sit on my hands so I don’t whip them off their face.

When we were seated, with headphones bigger than my actual skull clamped on so hard my brain was mushing its way towards exiting out my nostrils, I realised that as the smallest person in there I couldn’t actually see over all the computers. And with an even bigger mic levelled at my face, I was doomed to be appear on any type of webcam as a body with equipment for a head. I couldn’t even jack my chair higher. Fail.

Must have looked a bit baffled by all this so Shannon gave me a hug but later cancelled that out with a friendly lovetap to the arm which really hurt! The man don’t know his own strength. That will teach me to show him a picture of himself in Disorder and tell him we had to photoshop some of his eyeshadow off. Not that he’d been wearing it originally, someone else had put it in and signed it off as ok for print! When we saw it, we were slightly aghast and started tech-scrubbing. It’s ok, he also managed to make me go bright red by announcing to the entire nation that he had a crush on me. It’s a lie, a LIE! He’s a fibber!

He was a dreadful cheat… he changed his score, copied answers on the quiz but had his hand over his answers like a fourth-grader which made me laugh. I know it took me like 40 goes on one of the songs we had to name but when you’re there and listening to it flash by you like an unfulfilled life, your brain goes absolutely blank and there’s no time to pull a fragment and start humming it. In the end, I did get all five. Woop much!?! Well, the bands, I was lost on a couple of song titles… Shannon and I managed to shout MUSE! simultaneously which made us look at each other and go, wtf?? Yes, we sounded like competing children after drinking too much red cordial.

Nihal was great – he let me bang on about the number of scantily clad panty bombshells in the Timbaland/Timberlake video – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRdHsuuXxfk - and seriously, R&B videos have always pissed me off. Women should be sexy. Hell yes. But it shouldn’t be the only thing they are….

Anyway, please have a listen if you missed it. And well done y’all for making This Is War the highest rated audience discussion track evvvvaaaahhhh! But I knew it would be cos I know how fast your hot little fingers can bash out a highscore text in the name of Mars.

BTW, don’t know why I look so fucking miserable in the photo. I mean, reeeeallly miserable. I was happy. Look at the lovely Marsian I’m wedged into! Maybe I was thinking about having to go outside again, which was lashing with rain and wind. Eurgh. Thanks for all the lovely tweets etc. Appreciated. xxtg
