BRUSHSTROKES, GRAPHICS AND ICONIC SHOES

Spring-Summer 2010 introduces two integrated concepts, Sumi and Tsuri. They reflect Japanese craftsmanship and authenticity; Sumi provides a strong tonal influence while Tsuri shines through as a graphical narrative for Footwear, Apparel and Accessories. Onitsuka Tiger introduces exciting retro executions inspired by the most iconic shoes of its rich sporting heritage. For Spring-Summer 2010 the focus is running and basketball.
Sumi means charcoal in Japanese. It translates through the collection as a tonal range of Black, Greys, and White, with calligraphy graphics inspired by historical Japanese fabric. It is simple silhouettes and subtle graphic patterns inspired by brush strokes, applied amongst jacquard weave.
Tsuri Footwear and Apparel designs are inspired by fishing. Here ‘Functionality from historical sports fashion’ translates into subtle design details such as big pockets, hoods and cutting lines. The collection features the graphical element of ‘Katsuo – stripe and check’ (inspired by the gradient stripe pattern on the belly of tuna fish), first introduced in Autumn-Winter 2009.
