Debut solo album Margins set for 11th October release on Billingham Records, featuring members of The Matinee Orchestra/Warm Digits and Field Music

Free MP3 North Atlantic Drift available from today at http://www.paulsmithmusic.eu

Margins is the debut solo release from Paul Smith: a collection of self-penned songs recorded with friend and co-producer Andy Hodson (The Matinee Orchestra/Warm Digits) at Hodson’s home in Newcastle. They started to work together four years ago and as Smith explains, “After recording about five or six songs over the course of the last few years I realised I was making an album.”

Field Music’s David Brewis plays bass on the album and his brother Peter Brewis also had a part to play – recording the single take of album track While You’re in The Bath, originally for an art project called The Set-Up. Hodson plays drums, while Smith developed a finger-picking guitar style to suit the feel of these often intimate and personal songs.

Margins is released on Billingham Records, run by Smith, the label on which Maximo Park’s first ever red vinyl was released. Maximo Park, together with Smith, are currently writing new material. As Smith explains: “I’m not ‘going solo’ – it’s not like George Michael leaving Wham!”

Margins will be released on CD, vinyl and digital download
