Men and their cars….
Eric Bana, who seems like a likeable chap, unfettered by the trappings of Hollywood is a man so enamoured with his car that he takes to rally car racing and then filming the whole adventure, including words of wisdom from such ‘luminaries’ as Jay Leno, Dr Phil, a creepy demeanoured US analyst, and, um, Jeremy Clarkson.
The reason it might just work is that the Australian sense of deadpan humour (sometimes hysterically unintentionable) and sheer audacity to believe that anyone might just watch this movie shines through, even in just at glance of the trailer. “I’ve never met anyone who’s had a car for so long that’s such a heap of shit…,” admits one his mates seriously. Only it’s not. It sounds like the funniest joke on the planet! Mind you, Australians could recite the Bible and it would sound like a Monty Python sketch.
When your boyfriend starts whinging about traipsing round and round the mall, give him a tenner and send him to the theatre. Let him revel in the blood, sweat and tears of Eric’s racing thrill.
