The highly anticipated collection from 2009 Fashion Fringe winners design duo Jena.Theo were no disappointment at the recent LFW.
Their autumn/winter collection ‘Silent Modes’ took inspiration from the French Resistance and 1950s glamour. This was clear to see even in the styling of the models’ hair using exaggerated waves being pinned into a smooth bun on the side at times, sporting deep black smoky eyes.
It was interesting to see how they created a collection which celebrated the evolution of the feminine silhouette mixed with influences from icons such as Charlie Chaplin but still able to fuse a modern twist into the collection using 3D affects and vibrant prints. High-waisted trousers, oversized dresses and tops made from silks and jersey fabrics teamed with structured leather and wool jackets. The collection had a mix of fluid movement playing with volume and proportions, the generous use of fabric enhanced the glamour.
On the flip side the prints made a bold statement. Collaborating with artist O.Two, they cleverly created prints which gave a striking edge sending a powerful message. Tie dye, words and streamlined gestures gave a very much needed modern dark twist.
Jena.Theo’s take on the past wowed the audience and their innovative fresh blend of history and modern day gave these young designers a well earned place on the future catwalk.
