Xbox 360 today announces the launch of a nationwide competition targeting Halo fans across the country. The ‘Looking for a Leader’ competition will support the launch of Halo: Reach, which is set to be to be the biggest entertainment event of 2010, and will be available exclusively on Xbox 360! The competition gives one lucky UK gamer the chance to become the Captain of a dream team of celebrity Halo: Reach and Xbox fans – the Elite Spartan Squad. Team members include: England and Manchester Utd footballer extraordinaire, Rio Ferdinand; Model and T4 presenter, Jameela Jamil; England Rugby star, Ben Cohen; and Gadget Show presenter, Jason Bradbury, with the final exciting member to be announced over coming days.
As well as becoming the Squad’s Captain, the winner will get the opportunity to train selected members of the celebrity team in a series of one-to-one’s, and then, as a team, be involved in the most exciting live Halo battle in gaming history at the official ‘Blue Carpet’ launch event of Halo: Reach in September. Additionally, a team of six gamers will also be selected to face-off against the Elite Spartan Squad and their newly-crowned Captain at the Reach mega-launch.
Rio Ferdinand, England Captain said: “With only six weeks to go until launch, I’m really excited to part of the Halo: Reach campaign and a member of the ‘Elite Spartan Squad’. This competition is such a great way to find the ultimate Halo fan to be our team Captain. Only the UK’s best will be chosen to coach us in the run-up to our big battle at the September launch event. Like myself, I know my fellow Elite Spartan Squad members are looking forward to welcoming our hero Captain – whoever he or she may be.”
A series of mini-Halo 3 tournaments are scheduled over the weekend of August 14 and 15 2010 across www.Ukspotlight.co.uk, www.Play2compete.com, www.Xboxliveaddicts.co.uk and www.Xboxer360.com. Single-player winners from each website tournament will then be interviewed in London on Saturday 21 August, where one lucky individual will be chosen to be the team Captain of the ‘Elite Spartan Squad’. The winning six-player team from the final to be played on www.Play2compete.com commencing at 8pm on Sunday 15 August will win the right to play against the ‘Elite Spartan Squad’ at the Halo: Reach launch in September. All winners, both the ‘Elite Spartan Squad’ Captain and the opposing Squad, will be announced on www.xbox.com/lookingforaleader on Friday 27 August.
Arriving in the UK on 14 September and created by acclaimed developer Bungie, Halo: Reach is the latest installment in the most successful franchise in gaming history. Halo: Reach tells the heroic story of Noble Team, a group of Spartan III Warriors who, through great sacrifice and courage, save countless lives in the face of impossible odds on planet Reach – humanity’s last line of defence against the encroaching Covenant force, whose ultimate goal is the destruction of Earth.
