A few months back I strolled into 93 Feet East in a drunken stupor, half expecting to hear some weird mix of SKA and hip hop. To my annoyance and my inability to make precise decisions at the time, I fell in to the wrong room resulting in me crawling up some stairs to find a room full of pretty stylishly dressed folks.

The music was quite something and pulled me out of my zombie trance. On the decks were two DJ producers called Deep Teknologi and not being able to quite put my finger on the genre I make a mental note to grab T.Williams and S.E.F, who make up Deep Teknologi, at some point after throwing up my kebab/cider brew to find out where I could hear this music again.

I heard you at your launch party at 93 Feet East back in November, it was very engaging. What have you been up to since?

Having a few really good parties and making good use of a few venues in Shoreditch. Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ben Westbeech, Cooly G and Tayo. We’ve been doing our best to play and produce some decent music and so far so good!

Whoa, all of that name dropping is making me dizzy although it does appear like you guys are doing alright for yourselves. The only thing I am unsure about is the genre you come under. What do we call your stuff then? Dub step? Techno?

Well, it’s a cross between everything we have been influenced by; House, Grime, Drum and Bass, Reggae, Arabic. Almost everything we’ve ever listened to. We like to consider ourselves a cultured and eclectic duo and we want this to come across in our music.

Oh, sounds like you’ve become Dr Frankenstein and created a new genre. A kind of mutant, new wave merged with a plethora of sounds. Are you hoping to revive the 90’s, where music was a mish-mash of everything and raving was pleasurable? Will there be warehouse raves and squat parties playing your stuff?

We did hear about these legendary raves back in the 90’s, but since we were only about 9 and neither of our mothers were heroin addicts we didn’t know exactly what went on. However , from the little information we do know and thanks to good dance tracks such as ‘Voodoo Ray’ by A Guy Called Gerald and the Jungle/Drum&Bass era we are able to hold real feel good parties where no one wants to sit down. Which is what we believe the 90’s were all about. We wouldn’t complain if we heard our baseline pumping from the speakers of any party.

Personally I think electronic music is missing vocals, we need them just like we needed them in the 90’s but hopefully this time without the dodgy nursery rhyme rapping. Will you bring the vocals back…pretty please?

We are working on a few different projects, so expect to hear some spoken word and maybe even some good singing over our dirty techy beats. Hold tight because we might even be doing the singing!

Woozers!!! So, let’s talk clobber… we know the indie fans love their bowler hats and skinny jeans and the dub step fans have adopted the scruffy chav look, what should we be wearing when we come to support Deep Teknologi?

First and foremost deodorant…after that layer with anything comfortable because you’ll have the urge to dance all night…

What do you guys like to wear when you’re ‘mashing up’ the dance floor with your sounds?

T.Williams has a Carhartt fetish and S.E.F likes anything by Maharishi and we both appreciate a good, clean pair of trainers.

Alongside clothes label whoring and name dropping, where else will 2010 be taking you?

Somewhere hot where they can dance and have a good ear for music…Brixton! No, not really, we are actually looking to venture outside of Europe and are keen to do the Moroccan Music festival Mawazine in May. We are also planning to broadcast live shows via the internet.

Festivals, now that puts a smile on my face, namely because it means sunshine. Moroccan music festivals even better, I will have to look into that one. Just out of sheer curiosity if you were a festival what would you be called?

The Big Bang; because that created great things.

Great, thanks guys you really helped me understand what I should be doing this year…My life is now complete…
